Getting mobile phones - our first big FAIL!

The multicultural people sculpture.
The casino, with three buildings, with what appears to be a ship across the top.
When Alex, our StarHub representative, installed our internet, cable, and phone on Friday, he assured us that getting mobile phones would be a piece of cake on Saturday.  There were 2 StarHub mobile phone locations within a short distance of our new apartment.  We should go to one with our StarHub account information, and we could get set up.  So we got up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Saturday, and set out to walk to the closest StarHub.  It was a 2.1 kilometer straight shot down the street outside our building, although the street did change names several times!  We should have known that things were not going to be that easy when we got to the mall, and had a very difficult time locating the StarHub store.  After several trips around the mall, and several trips to the directory, we were finally able to find the store.  The clerk first asked us for our Identification Cards, which we hadn't gotten, because you have to make an appointment to get thumb prints taken.  Then she asked for our passports.  We hadn't brought those, either.  We did have our StarHub account number, though.  That would not help us to get mobile phones.  We could either wait to get our Identification Cards, or bring in an $800 cash deposit for the first phone and a $500 deposit for the second phone, along with our passports.  Once we got our Identification Cards, we could bring them back, and our deposit would be refunded in 6 to 8 weeks.  So, needless to say, we waited to get our Identification Cards.  Apparently, they're concerned that their phones will be on the next plane out of Singapore.  It made sense, but it was just another example of the things you don't realize when you've spent your whole life in the US!
