Eating at "Verre"

After a heavy 2 hour thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, we again decided to stay close to home when looking for a restaurant on Saturday night.  We chose a restaurant called "Verre", which means glass.  In this case, they're referring to a glass of wine, because they have quite an extensive wine list.  Their paper placemats have this quote from Robert Louis Stevenson, "Wine is bottled poetry."
Lamb shanks and Beef Bourgoignon with garlic mashed potatoes and couscous.

Cheers to Rich...

They only have 3 or 4 types of beer.  Their menu is also quite limited.  They have several starters, and as far as main dishes, they have a salmon dish, a pork dish, a lamb dish, and a beef dish.  We chose a grilled asparagus starter, served with a vinaigratte, bacon, and an egg.  When it arrived, I thought it had a dollop of sour cream on the top, but that was the poached egg on top of the asparagus.  I was so eager to divide the salad to share it, that I forgot to take a picture!  It was delicious, though.  It had a very original mix of flavors.

Since Rich and I have grilled salmon and grilled pork every week, we decided to get the lamb dish and the beef dish, and split them.  We usually have beef, too, but this was beef bourguignon.   It came with garlic mashed potatoes.  The lamb shank came with a cucumber yogurt sauce with rosemary and couscous with olive tapenade.  Both were very tasty!

Rich had several beers with his dinner, and I had a small carafe of wine.  It ended up costing us $85/person.  That seems high to me, but that may just be Singapore prices!

Afterward, we walked back to our apartment complex, and had a nightcap by the pool.  Unfortunately, the chairs had never really dried after the afternoon downpour, so we both went up to our apartment with very wet bottoms!!
