Having Drinks at Blue Bar at the top of the Shangri-La Hotel

Rich and I had spent New Year's Day of 1998 at Manly Beach.  When we returned to Circular Quay, via the ferry, we tried to go to he Taronga Zoo.  The clerk at the Zoo ferry discouraged us, because the Zoo was scheduled to close in 1 1/2 hours, and we wouldn't be able to do it justice.  Since we were close to the Sydney Opera House, we decided to try to take the tour there instead.  As we walked toward the Opera House, we literally ran into a friend that we knew from London, who now lived in South Africa with his wife.  He and his wife had come home for the holidays to visit her family in Sydney.  It was definitely a small world!  He was staying at the Shangri-La Hotel, which was right on Sydney's Harbor.  He invited us to join him and his wife for a drink at the Blue Bar on the top floor.  The view was exquisite!  The drinks were also very good.  I had my first ever Mango Daiquiri.  It was very tasty, and made me a mango drink lover ever since.  I had been looking forward to taking Erin up to the bar for drinks and the view all during our visit.

When we arrived, all the tables near the windows were occupied.  They seated us at one of the inner tables.  That was not where we wanted to sit!  We perused the drinks list, and there were no mango drinks to be found.  We were not happy campers!!!  Our waitress brought us the menu for the restaurant that was on the other side of the top floor.  The restaurant was pricey, but if we were going to pay for the view, we at least wanted to have a view!  Unfortunately, we didn't find anything on the restaurant menu that sounded great.  Just as we made that realization, a table opened up closer to the window.  We asked our waitress if we could have that one, and she was able to get us right up to the window.  Now we were ready to drink!  We bought a bottle of champagne, and enjoyed it along with the view.
