Going to St. Mary's Cathedral and Eating at Woolworth's

Late Tuesday afternoon, we boarded a very crowded Sydney bus to head back to our hotel.  The bus was absolutely crowded to capacity, and the driver seemed determined to test the joints and steadiness of every standing passenger.   Thankfully, we eventually got seats, so we got a break from the herky jerky man.

In one of our Sydney brochures, Erin had seen a beautiful picture of St. Mary's Cathedral taken at twilight.  It was already 4:30, and the sun was scheduled to set at 5:38, so we decided to take a detour through the park to the cathedral, and wait for dusk.  There were several brides and grooms taking pictures in the park, and I tried to get pictures of them.  Erin called me a "Creeper", but she doesn't understand that I'm just a hopeless romantic.  There was a guitar player and singer in the park, and I enjoyed listening to his music so much that I bought his CD.  We bought ice cream cones dipped in chocolate, and covered with sprinkles and nuts, with a chocolatey wafer thing.  A bike rider came along and wiped out right in front of us.  He must have been distracted by our beauty!  We asked if he was ok, and he said he was and got back on his bike and rode on.  We saw a funny bird with a type of anteater beak.

The lights finally started to come on, and we took loads of pictures of the cathedral.  We also worked on perfecting our panoramic shots.  There was a beautiful fountain, and although it wasn't as big and colorful as Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, we still took many pictures of it.  We were eventually satisfied that one of our 100 pictures was the perfect one, so we headed for home.

Erin needed to shower when we got back, and then she started to peter out again.  In our wanderings, I had noticed a Woolworth's about a block away from our hotel.  It advertised that it had a hot food counter on the second floor.  I can't remember when Woolworth's disappeared from the States, but this was definitely a blast from the past!  It turned out that it had lots of munchies and beverages on the main floor, a grocery store with a deli on the lower floor, and all kinds of things on the second floor with the hot food counter.  We went down to the grocery level, and tried to find something to eat in the hot deli area.  We had some difficulty there, because Erin doesn't eat chicken, and chicken was everywhere!  We ended up with fish and chips, potato salad, water, and yogurt.  I was hoping to find wine, but I was disappointed in my search.  I got a coupon on my receipt for "Buy One Bottle of Wine - Get One Free" at a different Woolworth's location.  Darn!  I carried that coupon around with me for the rest of our visit, but I never did find that Woolworth's.
