Having a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar of the Raffles Hotel

When I was in London in January for a wedding, many of the other guests told me that I had to go to Raffles for a Singapore Sling.  They said that the drink was sinfully expensive, but you had to do it once during your stay in Singapore.  We decided to get the one time in during Erin's visit.  So, Erin and I headed to Raffles Hotel after our Flyer ride.  Rich would meet us there.

Rich had scheduled an interview for Friday evening, and couldn't meet us until 7:30 PM, so Erin and I had plenty of time to walk to Raffles.  Luckily, there was lots to see along the way, as we were in the midst of Downtown Singapore.  We walked past the ArtScience Museum, The Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion, and the Esplanade Theatre and Concert Hall.  Then things got a bit tricky, because we had to go underground to get across the street.  Once we were below ground, there were way too many options on what was above ground and which way to go, and Raffles seemed to be in every option!  We eventually found our way, and beat Rich to the bar by 10-15 minutes.

When Rich arrived, I ordered an original Singapore Sling, and Erin ordered a Singapore Spring Sling, because it had champagne in it.  Rich had a Guinness.  We also ordered some appetizers, so that Erin wouldn't collapse from hunger.  We got an order of 3 sliders, an order of fries, and an order of nachos.  The sliders and fries were good, but the nachos were the worst I ever had!  It was a bowl of nacho chips, a little bowl of melted cheese, a little bowl of salsa, and a little bowl of guacamole.  And that tray of "nachos" cost $12.  Because Erin likes to have ranch with everything, I had put a "go ranch" into my purse, in case we went out to eat somewhere.  That was a lifesaver, as fries and chips got dunked in ranch long after the cheese, salsa, and guac were gone.  Rich had a second beer, but Erin and I couldn't bring ourselves to order a second $26 Singapore sling.  Thank goodness we didn't, because that "feast" cost us $175!!!!  Well, we're one and done!
